Sabrosa is a Portuguese town in the district of Vila Real and a sub-region of the Douro, former province of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, with a population of approximately 1200 people.
It lies in the demarcated Port wine region. Sabrosa still displays archaeological vestiges from the Neolithic period, the Iron Age and the Middle Ages.
This town is located 18 km from Pinhão, approximately 30 minutes away by car.
Author Miguel Torga, discoverer Fernão de Magalhães and poet Aires Torres are some of the big names that have lived in the city of Sabrosa. In this city you will find different attractions, such as the Miguel Torga house-museum – Quinta da Foz, or even the Mamoa de Madorras, archaeological site found in the last century.
Mamoa de Madorras dates from the Neolithic period. It is a monumental, cerimonial burial site uncovered in the 1980’s when archaeological investigations were carried out on the site which had previously been discovered in 1912 by the Portuguese archaeologist, Albino dos Santos Pereira.

The Miguel Torga Centre was developed on the site of the Portuguese author’s former House. Part of the regional tourism centre, the museum is dedicated to the life of the Portuguese author and doctor, Miguel Torga.
It was in this House that the author lived for most of his life and where he was inspired to write many of his most famous literary works.
